ediary is a self-help platform built around a guided, day-by-day journaling practice. This page explains, plainly, what information we collect, where it goes, and — most importantly — what we do not do with it.
The short version
We never read your journal entries. We never sell your data to anyone. We never use your entries to train AI. Where a feature uses AI — like personalized feedback on an activity — exactly what that involves is described below, including how to turn it off if you'd rather not use it.
What we collect
When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and password. Your password is handled entirely by our authentication provider and is never visible to us in readable form.
As you use the journal, we store what you write — your daily entries and activity responses — tied to your account only.
We also keep a small record of your notification preferences, and a timestamped log of when you agreed to this policy and our Terms, so that agreement is provable if it's ever needed.
How your entries are protected
Your entries are stored in our database with security rules enforced at the database level itself — not just trusted to app code. In practice, this means the database itself refuses to hand your entries to anyone but you, including us, unless those rules are deliberately and specifically broken. Your data is also encrypted at rest.
Who else sees anything, and what exactly
We use a small number of trusted outside services to run ediary. Here's exactly what each type of service can and cannot see:
- Our database and account provider — this is where your account and entries are technically stored.
- Our payment processor, acting as our merchant of record. They see your name, email, and payment details. They never see your journal content.
- An error-monitoring tool — alerts us when something breaks in the app. It only sees technical error details (what broke, which page, browser info) — never your journal content.
- A privacy-conscious analytics tool — helps us understand which pages people use, like whether someone reached checkout. It's deliberately switched off on the journal page itself, so it never sees anything you write.
- Our hosting provider — serves the website itself.
None of these services are permitted to use your data for their own purposes, and none of them have access to your actual journal entries except our database provider, as the infrastructure your entries are technically stored on.
AI and your data
Your entries are never used to train any AI model, ours or anyone else's. Some features — like personalized feedback on an activity, including on the free preview pages — use AI to generate a response based on what you wrote. Only the text of that specific activity is sent; no name, email, or account details are ever attached to it, and it's never reviewed by anyone at ediary. This feature is on by default, and you can turn it off at any time from Account Settings, or from the toggle shown when you start an activity.
Cookies and local storage
We use a small amount of local browser storage to keep you logged in between visits. On our public pages (not the journal itself), we use privacy-conscious analytics to understand things like how many people reach checkout — never what anyone writes.
How long we keep your data
We keep your account and entries for as long as your account exists. If you'd like your journal entries cleared, or your account fully deleted, email us at the address below and we'll take care of it directly — we intentionally keep a real person in the loop for something this permanent, rather than a single click.
Your rights
You can review or edit your name at any time from Account Settings. If you'd like a copy of your data, want your entries cleared, or want your account fully deleted, contact us and we'll help directly.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use ediary after a change means you accept the update.
